What it does

KPT Pen Lab in a minute

KPT Pen Lab puts a see-through drawing layer over your slide. Draw with the Pen, Rectangle, Ellipse and Line, select and move what you drew, pick a fill and a stroke, and Place it back on the slide as a native PowerPoint freeform.

BASIC is the pen essentials. The rest of an Illustrator-style toolbox sits in the tab as locked entries, each telling you what it does.

A real pen
Click for a corner, drag for a curve, click the first point to close. Enter or Esc ends an open path.
Shapes with modifiers
Rectangle, Ellipse and Line: drag, hold Shift for a square, circle or 45 degrees, and Option to draw from the centre.
Select and adjust
Selection and Direct Selection move whole paths, single points and handles. Arrow keys nudge, Shift nudges by 10 points.
Place as native shapes
Every path becomes a native freeform with your fill and stroke. Cmd-Return places the drawing, and Cancel leaves the slide untouched.
Colour with the deck
Fill and stroke swatches, the deck's theme colours, a hex value, stroke weight, opacity and an eyedropper.
Zoom and pan on the layer
The layer has its own zoom, Hand and Zoom tools, and follows PowerPoint's own zoom when allowed.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Why does it ask for Accessibility and Automation?

Automation lets the helper app control PowerPoint so it can place your shapes. Accessibility lets the drawing layer follow PowerPoint's zoom and scrolling exactly. Without Accessibility, BASIC still works: it sets PowerPoint to Fit when the layer opens so the layer lines up with the slide.

Are the shapes I place real PowerPoint shapes?

Yes. Every path becomes a native freeform with your fill and stroke, so you can keep editing it in PowerPoint.

Will it use my Illustrator shortcuts?

Illustrator's tool letters and shortcuts are part of ADVANCED. BASIC keeps Esc, Return, Cmd-Return, Cmd-Z, arrow nudges and the zoom and pan keys.

Does it send anything anywhere?

No. It makes no network connections and has no analytics.

Why does the installer ask for my Mac password?

It installs the add-in into Office's system-wide Startup folder, which PowerPoint scans at launch. It never writes into PowerPoint's own container or registry.

How do I remove it?

Double-click Uninstall KPT Pen Lab Basic.command in /Library/Application Support/KPT/KPT Pen Lab Basic/. It removes only BASIC's files and leaves ADVANCED alone.

I installed it but cannot find the tab.

Quit PowerPoint completely (Cmd-Q) and open it again. The tab appears after View in the ribbon. If it is still missing, see the PowerPoint install guide or contact us.
